The Promenade
Known locally as "La Prom", this 6-kilometer seafront walk lined with palm trees is one of the most iconic places in Nice, from the airport side to Old Town.

A little history about the Promenade des Anglais

The Promenade des Anglais is a must-see in Nice, but it was only built in the mid-18th century, as the first houses in Nice were built inland rather than on the coast. During a particularly harsh winter that caused a massive influx of winter visitors seeking a milder climate, wealthy English people, who had taken to spending their winters in Nice, decided to give them a useful task: building a promenade.

The municipality, which found the initiative interesting, subsequently increased the development work. The name camin dei Anglés was given by the people of Nice, in the Nice language, then, when Nice was annexed by France in 1860, its French version was adopted: La Promenade des Anglais.

The coastline on the Promenade des Anglais

Today, the Promenade des Anglais has become one of the most popular places to stroll on the Côte d'Azur. Its 6 kilometres of beachfront promenade offer superb views of the Nice coastline, giving a feeling of space and freedom that cannot be found in the city. The unobstructed view is particularly enjoyable at the end of the day, with its orange hues as the sun sets. The turquoise blue of the sea, the warm colours of the houses and the blue of the sky make it a particularly popular spot for photographers.
What's more, this walk offers easy access to the city's pebble beaches, both public and beach restaurants.

Don't miss a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais at night, which is truly magnificent between the Negresco and Old Nice: magical!

The blue chairs on the Promenade des Anglais

Once scattered along the Promenade des Anglais and freely movable, the famous blue chairs of Nice are now only found in front of the Negresco and have all been tied together. This is due to thieves and vandals who targeted this symbol of Nice. You may notice the Nice eagle engraved on the slats of the chairs.
The old chairs are all grouped together in a rather original display case at the Museum of Modern Art in the Nice-Est district.

Four Points Sheraton Elysee Palace Hotel

Unlike the other hotels worth seeing from a tourist point of view when exploring the Promenade, the Four Points stands out. Ultra-modern and completely out of step with the rest of the old buildings on the Promenade des Anglais, it is nonetheless surprising. Its façade is decorated with a huge (really huge!) statue that is worth seeing.

The Ruhl Casino

The Ruhl Casino, located at No. 1 Promenade des Anglais and beneath the Le Méditerranéen hotel, is most visible at night thanks to its "Vegas-style" lighting and the sports cars of its customers, which the casino likes to display in front of the entrance. Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Aston Martins... the Ruhl car park has seen it all. The lower
part of the establishment is occupied by a cabaret restaurant.

The Albert I Garden

The Albert 1er Garden marks the beginning of the Promenade des Anglais between the old town and the modern city. It is a very pleasant place to stroll. In summer, you will appreciate the shade provided by the many palm trees and enjoy sitting on one of the park's numerous benches. There are many attractions for children, including rides and other games.
