The Promenade
Known locally as "La Prom", this 6-kilometer seafront walk lined with palm trees is one of the most iconic places in Nice, from the airport side to Old Town.

A bit of history about the Promenade des Anglais
The Promenade des Anglais is a must-visit place in Nice, but it was only built in the mid-18th century, the first homes in Nice having been built inland and not on the coast.
It was during a particularly harsh winter that triggered a massive influx of beggars coming to seek a mild climate that the wealthy English, who took to spending the winter in Nice, decided to give them useful work: building a promenade path.
The municipality, which found the idea interesting, subsequently carried out many more development works. The name camin dei Anglés was given by the people of Nice, in the Niçois language, then, when Nice was annexed by France in 1860, its French version was adopted: La promenade des Anglais.

The coastline along the Promenade des Anglais
Today, the Promenade des Anglais has become one of the most popular walking spots on the French Riviera. Its 6 kilometres of promenade along the beach allow you to enjoy a superb view of the Nice coastline, giving a feeling of space and freedom that you do not find in the city.
The unobstructed view is very enjoyable at the end of the day for its orange glow as the sun sets. The turquoise blue of the sea, the warm colours of the buildings and the blue of the sky make it a place particularly appreciated by photographers.
What's more, this walk offers easy access to the town's pebble beaches, both public ones and beach restaurants.
Be sure not to miss the walk along the Prom' at night, truly sumptuous between the Negresco and old Nice: enchanting!
The blue chairs of the Promenade des Anglais
Formerly scattered all along the Promenade des Anglais and freely movable, the famous blue Niçois chairs can now only be found facing the Negresco and have all been chained together. The fault of thieves and vandals who targeted this symbol of Nice.
You will notice, engraved on the slats of the chairs, the eagle of Nice.
The old chairs are all gathered in a rather original display case at the Museum of Modern Art in the Nice-East district.

Hôtel Le Palais de la Méditerranée
N°15 on the Promenade des Anglais, the Palais de la Méditerranée, inaugurated in 1929 and rebuilt in 2004, is especially worth a look in the evening, for its lighting that highlights the very surprising recess it features. Its facade is listed as a historical monument. If you are a gambler, head to the casino which occupies the ground floor.

Do not believe for a moment that this hotel branded "Best Western" has no character. It is located in an old luxury private building from the beginning of the century, when the Prom' was still brand new. It brings undeniable character to this seafront road.

Hôtel le Four Points Sheraton Elysee Palace
In contrast to the other hotels to see from a tourist point of view when discovering the Prom', the Four Points stands apart. Ultra-modern, completely out of step with the rest of the old buildings of the Promenade des Anglais, it is still surprising. Its facade is decorated with an immense (truly immense!) statue that is worth a look.

The casino Ruhl
The casino Ruhl, at N°1 Promenade des Anglais and beneath the Hôtel Le Méditerranéen, is especially visible at night thanks to its "Vegas-style" illuminations and the sports cars of customers that the casino likes to display in front of the entrance. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, the Ruhl's car park has seen it all.
The lower part of the establishment is occupied by a cabaret restaurant.
The Jardin Albert 1er
The Jardin Albert 1er marks the beginning of the Promenade des Anglais between the old town and the modern city. It is very pleasant to stroll there. In summer you will appreciate the shade cast by the many palm trees and take the opportunity to sit on one of the many benches in the park. Numerous attractions are planned for children: fairground rides and other games.
