Russian Orthodox Cathedral Nice

Russian Orthodox Cathedral
Right in the center of Nice, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral stands out with distinctive architecture and colors unlike anything else in the city.
History of the Russian Church in Nice
In the mid-19th century, the Russian imperial family took up the habit of spending time on the French Riviera, particularly in Nice. A large and wealthy Russian community eventually settled there.
The Russian Church was built at the end of the 19th century at the instigation of Alexander II of Russia on the exact spot where his son, Tsarevich Nicholas, died of meningitis.

At 52 metres high, it is the largest building of its kind outside Russia and is considered the most beautiful Orthodox church in Western Europe. As such, it is classified as a historical monument.
You can simply admire the building from the outside, as it is so exceptional, but we also recommend visiting the interior.
