Best times to visit Nice
Visiting Nice in May
May offers pleasant temperatures around 25°C, perfect for sunbathing on the French Riviera beaches. However, sea swimming remains quite fresh this early in the season. May is excellent for sightseeing and hiking: comfortable temperatures, minimal rainfall, and fewer tourists than peak summer months.
Visiting Nice in June
June marks the true arrival of summer in Nice. You can enjoy the beaches without peak-season crowds and extreme heat. The sea is cleaner than later in summer, though still slightly cool early in the month. This is arguably the best time to combine beach time, sightseeing, and outdoor activities.
Visiting Nice in July
If you are sensitive to heat, crowds, and higher prices, avoid July. Temperatures frequently reach 40°C. Traffic congestion is common, and major tourist sites, hotels, and restaurants are at full capacity.
Weather conditions are exceptional: high UV index, hot air and sea temperatures (often near 25°C).
The city focuses entirely on tourism and outdoor cultural events.
Visiting Nice in August
July conditions persist through mid-August, then gradually cool. Mid-August offers a good compromise: warm sea temperatures, hot weather without extreme peaks, and pleasant coastal breezes. Tourist crowds remain similar to July.
Visiting Nice in September
Along with May, September is one of the best months on the French Riviera. Tourist numbers drop significantly after the school year begins, but weather remains outstanding for both sightseeing and swimming. Temperatures easily reach 30°C with gentle breezes.
Beware of rush-hour traffic as schools resume.
Visiting Nice during the rest of the year
While May through September is ideal, Nice is pleasant to visit year-round thanks to its mild Mediterranean climate and exceptional sunshine, even in winter. While you won't want to swim in November, temperatures can surprisingly reach 25°C.
During off-season months, expect cool mornings before sunrise and surprisingly warm afternoons. Temperatures can reach 17°C even in January along the coast. Pack both warm and light clothing if visiting in winter.
October and November require special attention as weather becomes unpredictable: expect both mild sunny days and cold rainy periods.
