Nice Vacation Budget
Estimate the budget for your stay on the French Riviera. Nice can be expensive, so planning accommodation, transport, and activities in advance is essential.
The price ranges we quote are per person, inclusive of all taxes and based on a couple travelling together. We therefore assume that a double room costing €80 per night will cost €40 per person. The same applies to scooter hire, taxis, etc.
We recommend adding the cost of airport transfers to your weekly budget: £8 per person return.

Information on payment methods
Currency and exchange
The official currency of France and other countries in the euro zone is the euro.
You will find currency exchange offices open 7 days a week:
- At the airport in Terminal 1. American Express.
- At 13 and 17 Avenue Thiers, 06000 Nice, opposite the SNCF train station.
Prices are displayed inclusive of all taxes
In France, prices displayed in shops for private individuals and tourists must always include all taxes. No surcharge may therefore be levied on the customer.
There are only a few exceptions to this rule:
- Prices displayed on restaurant menus may be displayed as "excluding service". In this case, the menu clearly indicates the additional cost (usually at the bottom of the page).
- Cafés, tea rooms, wine bars, etc. generally charge a supplement when you consume on the terrace and they also have an indoor dining area.
- Hotels always display their prices "excluding tourist tax". This tax, which is intended to contribute to all investments generated by tourism, can never exceed £0.70 per day per room for a 4-star hotel.
Bank cards
In France, the country that invented the chip card, the use of bank cards is extremely common in cafés, hotels, restaurants and department stores. The very few establishments of this type that do not accept them usually display this clearly on their shop front. However, there are thresholds, generally between €8 and €15, below which cards are not accepted.
However, the use of bank cards is much less widespread in small local shops and street vendors. If you have any doubts, ask before making a purchase.
The simplest
solution is therefore to always carry a small amount of cash with you in addition to your bank card. You will find cash machines on every street corner in large cities such as Nice.
