Monte-Carlo Casino: visiting, dress code and tickets

The Monte-Carlo Casino is not visited like a museum: in the morning you tour the Belle Époque rooms as a cultural visit; from 2pm those same rooms become gaming rooms, adults only. Two experiences, two sets of rules — and a €20 ticket either way.

Two visits in one

You enter by the main steps on the Place du Casino. The day follows the casino's own timetable:

• 10am - 1pm: cultural visits, last entry 12.15pm, with an interactive guide to download on your phone. Some gaming rooms may be photographed during the morning visits;
• Atrium and Boutique: open from 10am, free access, no age limit;
• Le Salon Rose (restaurant): open from noon;
• From 2pm: the gaming rooms and bars open, adults only.

What you see

The ordinary rooms you can walk through on the morning visit:

• Salle Europe and Salle des Amériques: table games under gilded ceilings;
• Salles Touzet: two vast stained-glass rooms built by Jules Touzet in 1890, who also designed the main entrance facade;
• Salle Renaissance: the casino's first gaming room, given over to slot machines, open to all;
• Café de la Rotonde and Le Salon Rose, under the dome.

The Salle Blanche deserves a mention of its own: the most exclusive room in the casino, with a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. Gaming starts at 3pm, a jacket is mandatory for men, and entry is reserved for My Monte-Carlo clients holding Gold, Platinum or Privé status. The private salons follow the same access rules.

Tickets: the morning tour and the evening entry

• Morning visit (interactive guide included): adult €20 · ages 13-17 €15 · ages 6-12 free;
• Group visit (10+ people): adult €17 · ages 13-17 €12 · ages 6-12 free;
• Entry to the gaming rooms from 2pm: €20, including €10 to spend on slot machines, at the bar or at Le Salon Rose restaurant (minimum €40 spend at the restaurant);
• Free for My Monte-Carlo members holding Silver, Gold or Platinum status.

Online booking is not currently available: you simply turn up, subject to capacity. Full details on the official rates and admission conditions.

Dress code, age and ID

Three requirements to reach the gaming rooms:

• Age: 18 years and one day, and not barred from gambling;
• ID: a valid national identity card (EU residents) or a valid passport with photo. Photocopies and digital documents are not accepted;
• Dress code: proper attire required. Shorts, city bermudas, ripped jeans, sportswear, running shoes, flip-flops and sandals for men, tank tops and beachwear are refused. From 7pm, T-shirts and sweatshirts are no longer allowed in the free-access areas, and a jacket becomes mandatory for men in several rooms.

Good news for families: the Atrium, Café de la Rotonde, Le Salon Rose, the Boutique and the morning visits have no age restriction.

Getting there from Nice

From Nice, the easiest option is the train: the TER from Nice-Ville to Monaco-Monte-Carlo takes 23 minutes and drops you at the foot of "the Rock". The Zou! 600 line (Nice - Monaco - Menton) also stops at "Monte Carlo Casino". Full details in our guide to Monaco and Monte-Carlo from Nice.

• Train: reaching Nice by train, then a TER towards Monaco;
• Bus: Zou! lines 600 and 602 from Nice;
• Boat: there is no regular Nice-Monaco ferry, only seasonal excursions — boat trips from Nice.

In the evening the Place du Casino stays lively even if you do not gamble: before the train back, Nice after dark rounds off the day on the French side.
