Description of Iron Man: details of the events
The event - which is extremely physically demanding - comprises three disciplines: a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle and a 49.195 km run.
The swimming event starts very early in the morning at Centenaire Beach in Nice. This beach is located opposite the Albert Ier garden, a stone's throw from the Casino Ruhl.
The cycling event starts on the Promenade des Anglais and takes place in the Nice hinterland (the riders pass through the towns of Saint Laurent du Var, Gattières, Carros, Le Broc and Gréolières) before finishing back on Nice's main avenue, the starting point of the famous Promenade des Anglais marathon.
The total duration of these three events is just over 8 hours for the best competitors! It takes around 50 minutes for the swimming, 4 hours 40 minutes for the cycling and 2 hours 50 minutes for the marathon. As the event takes place at the end of June, the temperature is often high, which makes the stages even more difficult.
This highly physical sporting event is eagerly awaited by triathletes. Every year, it attracts a large number of spectators from Nice and elsewhere.
