Nice by Scooter & Bike: Two-Wheel Transport

Two wheels
In Nice, two-wheel transport is often the fastest and most flexible option, especially for moving along the coastal roads.
Getting around Nice by motorbike or scooter
Two-wheeled vehicles are the most efficient and enjoyable way to get around Nice, so much so that motorbikes and scooters are everywhere. They allow you to avoid traffic jams and parking difficulties while enjoying the pleasant climate. They are truly the number one means of transport, saving you precious time and giving you a great sense of freedom.
As always in the South of France, pay close attention to the reactions of other vehicles on the road. If possible, keep a safe distance and try to anticipate the trajectory of cars as much as possible. Drivers in Nice rarely use their indicators before turning... Slow down when approaching intersections, even if the light is green. It is not uncommon to see drivers running red lights.
Scooter hire in Nice
Whether you are looking for a 50cc scooter, the only motorised two-wheeler that does not require a driving licence, or a 125cc scooter, which requires a motorcycle licence or a car licence that is more than two years old, you will find what you are looking for at Europcar, which has branches at the airport, the SNCF train station and in the city centre, a stone's throw from the Promenade des Anglais. The advantage of renting your two-wheeler from a major company like this is that the insurance policies are very well designed.
Motorcycle rental in Nice
It is possible to hire a motorbike to explore the region, although this option is only recommended if you already have extensive experience in this area. We are currently looking for the best rental agencies.
Getting around Nice by bike
In recent years, Vélo Bleus have made their appearance in Nice. Equivalent to Paris's Vélib', they are an ideal means of transport for exploring the city quietly and economically.
The system is simple: open an account by following the instructions at the terminal, take your bike, and the first half hour is always free! Subsequent hours are charged. For example, you can take a bike for 15 minutes, drop it off, visit a place, then take another one for 20 minutes. As both journeys were less than 30 minutes, everything is free (except for opening a day account, which costs one euro).
- 120 stations
- 1,200 bikes available
- 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
- Option to open a daily or weekly account
- Half an hour free with each rental
There are more and more cycle paths, and we recommend you stick to them! You can cycle along the Promenade des Anglais, Avenue Jean Médecin and Rue de France for shopping, cross the superb Boulevard Victor Hugo and head to Old Nice.
Please note that outside these major coastal and tourist routes, the city is hilly and the climbs can be very steep.
